METHODS IN THEORETICAL WORK A post-graduate seminar in social theory

This course is organized in cooperation with SOVA and TAMCESS postgraduate program for social sciences.
In social sciences there is a large number of different theoretical approaches. How can one select a relevant and suitable theoretical approach for one's research topic? How does one do theoretical work in social sciences? What are the methods in theoretical work?
The idea of this course is to give tools, skills and qualifications for researchers to choose a relevant theoretical view point for their research topic. Themes in this seminar will be metatheory in social sciences, rhetoric of social sciences and history of social sciences. This course is meant for postgraduate students who are making their doctoral thesis.

The visiting professors will deliver lectures and provide research consultations.
The participants are expected to present an individual working paper at the seminar, for example a research outline or an article manuscript. Working language is english. Papers will be discussed in self-directed working groups.

The participation fee for all except students of SOVA is 700 FIM. Accommodation and lunches are not included.
