MEMORY AND HISTORY

5th CONFERENCE OF THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR THE STUDY OF EUROPEAN IDEAS

to be held at Utrecht, Netherlands, 19-24 August 1996

Workshop on the History of the Book

I am organising a workshop on the History of the Book, in the History section of this multidisciplinary conference, and I invite proposals from contributors. I hope that our discussions will focus on the History of Reading, and especially on 19th century topics, but I would also welcome offers of papers on related issues which don't fit these categories. Papers should of course have a European (Europe includes Britain) focus.

Normally, a selection of papers from the ISSEI conference is subsequently published in an issue or issues of the "History of European Ideas".

About 80% of conference proceedings will be in English - there may be one or two papers in French.

Details of the organisation of the Conference should be obtained from Professor Ezra Talmor, Kibbutz Nachshonim, D.N.Mercaz 73190, Israel Fax 972-3-9386484.

Offers of papers for the workshop on the History of the Book should be sent to me, Martyn Lyons, School of History, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia 2052 Fax +61 2 313 7525

I will be in touch later regarding deadlines for abstracts, etc.

Yours, Martyn Lyons
