CALL FOR PAPERS

Lahikuva is a quarterly magazine published in Turku/Åbo (Finland) by the Finnish Society for Cinema Studies. In 1988 Lahikuva brought out a special double issue "Nordic Cinema Studies/Nordisk Filmforskning" that was based on papers presented in the first Nordic meeting for film scholars in Turku/Åbo (1987). Now, six years later, Lahikuva is planning a new Nordic special issue concentrating on presenting the work of young film scholars and doctoral candidates in Nordic countries.

We welcome submission of articles on all topics - the aim of the special issue is to display the present state of cinema studies in Nordic Countries. Yet, with the centenary of cinema in mind, we are especially interested in providing a forum for investigations of the internationally topical question of national cinema/nationality and cinema. So far there has been little discussion of these issues in the Nordic context. As a possible (yet not exclusive) theme with a broad interest we suggest Life in the Forests/Modernity in the Nordic Cinemas.

The issue will be published in English in order to guarantee widest possible circulation. Since English is a foreign language to most of us all articles will be checked by a language consultant before publication.

Please submit manuscripts (20-25 pages, 30 lines/page, max 7500 words) to LAHIKUVA by 1 July 1995. The manuscripts are to be sent directly to the guest editor of the issue, Anu Koivunen.

For any questions, please contact the editor. In any case, we encourage you to be in touch with her before submitting your article so as to smooth the editorial process.
