I have been asked by the Director, Centre for British Studies, University of Adelaide, South Australia, 5005 (Michael J. Tolley) to forward the following details regarding the award of visiting fellowships at the Centre for distribution through H-Net Albion. He would also be grateful if this information could be forwarded to any H-Net lists that you consider to be relevant. Many thanks. Helen Payne, Department of History, University of Adelaide, South Australia, 5005.

The University of Adelaide's Centre for British Studies plans to award a small number of visiting fellowships tenable at the Centre between June 1996 and July 1997. The purpose of the CBS Visiting Fellowships is to bring to Adelaide scholars working on aspects of the culture and society, past and present, of the British Isles, both to pursue their own research and to interact with the local scholarly community. Members of the Centre for British Studies are currently working in the field of anthropology, geography, history, literature, politics and women's studies. It is envisaged that most visiting fellows will come to Adelaide for one month, the minimum period for which fellowships are awarded, but longer stays may be possible. The Centre reserves the right to vary the number and value of fellowships awarded at its discretion.

In addition to office facilities, borrowing privileges at the Barr Smith Library and temporary membership of the University of Adelaide Club, visiting fellows will receive a grant in aid ranging from $A500-750 (for those coming to Adelaide from elsewhere in Australia or New Zealand) to $A2000 (for those travelling from the northern hemisphere). Visiting Fellows have no formal academic obligations, other than to pursue their work in Adelaide, deliver a public lecture or seminar on their work for the Centre, and provide a brief report to the Director of the Centre at the conclusion of their tenure.

Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, list of publications and brief outline of the project on which they propose to work to the Director, Centre for British Studies, University of Adelaide, South Australia 5005 (Fax: 61 8 224 0464: Email: mtolley@arts.adelaide.edu.au). They should also arrange for two letters of reference to be sent to the same address by 15 November 1995, which iYs the closing date for applications.
