The organizers would like to thank the students who attended the Seminar on Multiculturalism during the fall semester 2011! The seminar continues again in the spring. More information will be posted as it becomes available.

On Tuesday, December 13, we will discuss two research papers. Nathan Adair will present his research paper “Fear and Loathing in the American Southwest: Framing Security Issues, Race and ‘Otherness’”. Tomasz Płoński’s paper is titled “Migrations & Immigrants in Poland: Scale, legal basis and politics”. The papers are available on the course’s Moodle site.

On Tuesday, November 22, we will discuss two papers. Aleksandra Kosiada will present her research plan “Foreign migration of Poles in the years 2004-2010. Portrait of a Polish immigrant” and Tuulia Lönnberg her research paper “Postpartum information for immigrant parents in Finland”.  

Aleksi Huhta will give the first research paper presentation of the semester on Tuesday, November 15 at 14-16. His paper is titled “Representation of ‘Blacks’ and the Construction of Finnish-American ‘Whiteness’, 1925-1955”, and it will be available on the course’s Moodle page in the end of this week.

On Tuesday, November 1, two students will present their research plans. First, Julia Born presents on the topic “Migration in Eastern and Western Germany, 1950-2000”. Ria Permana Sari’s paper title is “Ethnic Minority Insecurity (Human, Gender and Environment) in Indonesia”. Tomasz’s topic is “Migrations in Poland (years 1918-1959) and their implications  on the social and ethnic structure of the country”. The seminar meets at 14.15 in the regular location, seminar room E325, Media Studies, Minerva, 3rd floor, Kaivokatu 12.  

On Tuesday, October 4, three students will present their research plans. Monika Liepinytė’s paper topic is “Multicultural communication features: Public attitudes towards foreigners. The case of Lithuania”, Aistė Seredžiūtė’s “The free movement of workers in European Union: Impact to the EU labor market”, and Nathan Adair’s paper is titled ”Fear and Loathing in the American Southwest: Racism, Securitization […]

On Tuesday, September 27, Aleksi Huhta will present his research plan titled “Representation of ‘Blacks’ and the Construction of Finnish-American ‘Whiteness’, 1925-1955”. The seminar meets at 14.15 in the regular location, seminar room E325, Media Studies, Minerva, 3rd floor, Kaivokatu 12.
