New Lectures on Multiculturalism as a New Pathway to Incorporation project continues on fall semester. First introductory meeting Tuesday, September 21st, at 14.15 at the Department of Social Research/Sociology, Publicum, in Uno Harva seminar room, at the University of Turku.
The series of seminars starts with FiDiPro Professor Peter Kivisto (Augustana College, Rock Island, IL), the Finland Distinguished Professor at the University of Turku. This fall semester, he holds four seminars on issues frequently brought up within the multiculturalism discourse. The seminars take place as part of the cross-disciplinary project, “Multiculturalism as a New Pathway to Incorporation”, funded by the Academy of Finland. This multidisciplinary series of seminars are therefore recommended for researchers and students of history, sociology and other related fields of study interested in multicultural issues. The seminars discuss the concept of multiculturalism, as well as its policies and practices carried on in various social and cultural environments.
Besides participating in the seminars, students are encouraged to select a topic for writing a preliminary essay (or research plan) on their own field of study that will be further deepened during the following seminar meetings.
The papers in progress and finished papers are also discussed in the seminar web pages (Moodle). You can register to the course at https://moodle.utu.fi/.
