I am sorry to disturb my collegues, but I was wondering if any of you could supply me with some information or some opinion which could help me with a research project. I am cross-posting this to a variety of Listservs, so you may reply to this Listserv or directly to me at dgerman@archives.ca or ar873@freenet.carleton.ca.

I am undertaking a research project having to do with the use of the Internet by archives, or by institutions with archival holdings, in particular their usage of the the graphical interface of the World Wide Web. As you are probably aware a number of archives have established Web sites in which they supply a variety of information ranging from their hours, to indices of some of their holdings, to copies of some of the documents they hold, either scanned into the system as an optical image in its original form or available as a simple text. Given the abilities which the Web has provided users, I am wondering if any of you can provide me with your opinion as to what kind of material you would like to see made available on an archive's website, including any examples of archival websites which you consider to be particularly weel or poorly planned and executed.

I want to thank you for your assistance with this request. If any of the respondents desire, I can provide you with a copy of my paper once completed.
